Cloud Practitioner costs: the US$100 fee, the 50 per cent voucher and the reschedule rules

By Mustafa K. Al-Dori · Checked against official documents on 11 October 2026 · 7 min read

The short answer

AWS publishes US$100 per attempt for a foundational exam, plus any tax. You can reschedule or cancel up to 24 hours before, and each appointment only twice. After a fail you wait 14 calendar days, with no limit on attempts, and every try is paid in full.

Candidates budget for the fee. The other lines are the ones that double the plan.

The published fee

AWS publishes the fee at US$100 for each attempt at a foundational exam. Tax may be added, and the price in your currency depends on exchange rates. AWS reviews exam prices at least once a year, so check the price shown when you book.

The budget lines

Line Notes
Exam fee, per attempt US$100, plus any tax
Course or Skill Builder subscription Optional
One practice-question source Choose one
Practice account Should cost nothing if set up safely
A retake Paid in full
Travel or room set-up Centre travel, or a webcam and room for online testing

A subscription, a second attempt and a forgotten practice resource arrive later, and the true cost can double the plan.

Budgets by training level

The three differ in training, not in the exam fee.

  • Economy: free official training, the free question set and a free-plan account.
  • Standard: adds one paid course, or a subscription month with the official practice exam.
  • Intensive: adds an instructor-led course.

Keep a reserve for a second attempt in every budget.

Where to save

  • Ask your employer to pay the fee, especially if it is an AWS partner or runs on AWS.
  • Use the free official training before you buy anything.
  • After you pass any AWS exam you receive a 50 per cent discount voucher for your next one. Read its terms, including the expiry date, because AWS cannot extend it.

Changing the appointment

You can reschedule or cancel up to 24 hours before the appointment, and each appointment can be rescheduled only twice. If you cancel within 24 hours or miss it, you lose the fee. Documented illness or emergencies may qualify for a waiver. Put the 24-hour line in your diary when you book.

Retakes

If you fail, you must wait 14 calendar days. There is no limit on attempts, but you pay the full fee each time. Once you pass, you cannot sit the same exam again for two years.

A failure on 4 March means a retake no earlier than 18 March. Confirm the exact date in your AWS Certification Account. Use those 14 days to review misses by habit.

Put the budget in one table

Write the exam fee, any course or subscription, one practice source, a reserve for one retake and the travel or room line in a single table, with a total with and without the reserve. Show that table to your employer if you ask them to pay.

Language and extra time

The exam is offered in 12 languages. If English is not your first language and you sit in English, you can request a 30-minute extension. You request it once, before you register, and it then applies to your future AWS exams. Candidates with a documented disability can request accommodations before scheduling each exam.

Who can sit

There are no prerequisites. Candidates must be at least 13. Those aged 13 to 17 may sit with the consent of a parent or legal guardian.
